Mai Solorzano
My commitment with contemporary jewelry is to observe the world, to find small details and outline them, reflecting and approaching ideas through the pieces. I enjoy working with different materials, transforming them until the piece is truly finished and acquires meaning and emotional value. I think a piece of jewelry should be a friendly object, which is our accomplice, in which we express something and sometimes we get questioned by his mere presence.
I'm Maria Solorzano, I was born in Mexico City and have lived in Buenos Aires for eight years. Also, I lived in Paris and Valencia. I´m an industrial designer, studied at the UNAM in Mexico City, contemporary jewelry specialist, attended the workshop of Maria Medici and "the ship” with Jorge Castañon. Over 6 years ago, I dedicated myself to jewelry, this is what I love the most! It allows me to work with any material, design are based on concepts and reflections. I think a piece of jewelry should be a friend, our accomplice. We express or question by their mere presence. I sell and exhibit my work in design shops, art galleries, museums and online on Etsy. In my workshop I teach creativity and jewelry, and furthermore realize pieces by request. All my work is made with love, devotion, introspection and is the expression of a certain thought or feeling. I do it from my heart to my clients. I am inspired by life itself, by a sunset, an autumn walk, reflection of beauty, or society, the pieces can be a poem or a call of attention. When working my main professional values are: value of the concept and social responsibility. I enjoy team working considering others, in an environment full of proposals without neglecting the products quality. All my work is the result of reflections, games and sensations.

My relationship with animals began with a pet. Since we were kids my sister and I loved animals, we begged our parents for years and at last he arrived, Mateo, a golden cocker spaniel completely spoiled that was part of our family for 16 years.
In the meantime many things happened, the family craft workshop, ceramics, college, photography, animation, illustration. I left Uruguay to go to Europe and missed America drawing maras and coatis. When I got back to Argentina, I travelled a lot through our immense landscapes and saw them everywhere. In
wildlife I found furry symbol of our region.
My wildlife porcelain jewelry is an expressive search. I attempt to set on it diverse aspects of my education and sensitivity. Among them are the years of ceramic research, the animal illustrations and the family workshop heritage. I also give this collection a conceptual meaning, mainly in the construction of a sense of belonging, my identity connected with my South American origin. Foxes are the main symbol of this quest; they are a tender metaphor of my peripheral identity. Like me, a south American woman, they are in the margins between wilderness and domestication, they survive in the borders between
nature and civilization.
